We are seeking an experienced Technical Sales Engineer who wants to be part of our exciting growth plans. You will be a self-starter with proven industry knowledge and a thirst to grow and deliver sales, taking our customers’ along the journey with you.
The role
As our new Technical Sales Engineer, you will be required to increase overall sales of services and products. Using your technical knowledge, you will expand the current project pipeline by developing and providing solutions, alongside the engineering team, to support customer requirements. You will be required to play a key role in growing our business and supporting our global and growing customer base with their requirements.
The responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following:
- Achieving your sales targets.
- Creating quotations in response to requests from new and existing customers.
- Handling enquiries from customers both over the phone and via email.
- Collaborating with the engineering team on engineering projects, upgrades, and callouts.
- Developing and maintaining excellent relationships with new and existing customers.
- Providing support with orders to both our customer base and engineering sales team.
- Communicating with our engineering sales and support team in understanding our customer’s individual requirements.
- Quotation follow-ups to increase quote to order conversions.
- Process orders received from customers onto CRM system.
- Building and maintaining relationships with our new and existing suppliers.
- Provide technical service assistance relating to application problems with products and utilizing and engaging the Engineering Team when required.
- Maintaining and developing full knowledge of product portfolio; keep up to date on new products and product range evolutions, new products introductions, obsolescence, and replacement (like-for-like) products.
About you
- Excellent Communicator with the ability to simplify complex concepts both verbally and in written form. Able to read and create technical and non-technical reports.
- A problem solver with a high level of autonomy to seek out opportunities for improvement and solutions for the business and our customers’
- Excellent customer service skills with the ability to build rapport and grow the customer
- Highly organized and able to work autonomously and able to prioritize long and short-term objectives as well as being a strong Team player

Skills & Qualifications
- 3+ years of product knowledge and experience of inverter drives, motors, and ancillary equipment (Parker Hannifin, Eurotherm, Control Techniques, Schneider, Mersen, Universal Motors, ABB, Yaskawa, Siemens, Danfoss).
- Ability to learn and understand product substitutions that can resolve customer needs.
- 3+ years sales experience
- Time served apprenticeship in Mechanical and Electrical Engineering and BTEC / City and Guilds (desired, but not essential)
- HNC / HND in Electrical / Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
- Microsoft office 365 (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams) proficiency

In return, we offer a competitive salary of £40,000 – £45,000 + commission. SDS is an equal opportunities employer.
