Field Service Engineer

We are seeking a Field Service Engineer with a deliverable background working with Variable speed drives, motors and ancillary equipment. This candidate will hit the ground running to service and support our growing number of customers with their process control & automation needs.

 

The role

This role will require you to deliver electrical engineering services and solutions to our customers across multiple applications in a wide range of industries. You will be required to respond to customers’ automation needs including but not limited to, upgrades, maintenance, diagnosis of system malfunctions, conducting repairs or replacement equipment. Technical support and customer service are fundamental responsibilities of the role; with regular contact required with key accounts for new developments and requirements.

In addition to the core competencies, you will, as part of your role:

  • Be proficient in on-site commissioning of AC & DC Motor Drives in a variety of industry applications
  • Familiar with PLC, HMI, and SCADA systems
  • Provide technical support to clients and be the go-to person for your technical skill
  • Diagnose faults and prescribe optimal solutions and / or product substitutions
  • Conduct fault finding and operational assessment of control systems both in isolation and in complex form.
  • Modify systems through electrical or software means to enhance performance
  • Record test results in suitable manner such that they can be used to support the necessity/direction of further work.
  • Clearly define and agree project responsibilities, ensure all projects are delivered professionally, agreeing outputs and timeframes with Engineers
  • Have advanced experience with Industrial Ethernet and one or more of the following: DeviceNet, Profibus, ProfiNet

  • Ability to provide rational risk versus cost benefit cases to enable customers to make informed decisions that avoid unnecessary costs and lost production time.
  • Hardworking and flexible
  • Proficient with the Microsoft Suite of programs (Office, Dynamics, Excel, Word, PowerPoint) & good PC skills

 

Skills & Qualifications

  • Servo Drive, AC Drive Configuration & Troubleshooting
  • Proficient in commissioning AC Drive, DC & Servo Drive systems
  • PLC, HMI & SCADA Programming (not essential)
  • PID Configuration in Drives, PLC & Temperature Controller (not essential)
  • Panel Wiring & Troubleshooting
  • Working Communication protocols on Can-open, Ethercat, Modbus – Ethernet TCP/IP
  • Motor Control (DOL, Star Delta, Inverters)
  • Safety Circuits & Safety PLCs
  • Reading Electrical Schematic Drawings
  • Converting machinery/ winding applications (speed/torque)
  • Time served apprenticeship in Mechanical and Electrical Engineering and BTEC / City and Guilds
  • HNC / HND in Electrical / Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
